The FoxyBiker Travels - A Vixen on a Voyage....
59Moving to Honduras...
It's September 2009 and I was supposed to be moving to a tiny diving island just off Honduras at some stage later this year. I should have been there already, but back in June there was a military coup and the President was taken out of power. Because of this tourism is down and the flight that I was supposed to be taking with my two cats from Milan has stopped until the 14th December.... Arrrrggghhhhhh... I'm in purgatory!!!!!!!!!!!
This is how it my life changing move to the tropics started a year and a half ago...
After another relasionshit ending, I decided to visit
my dear friend Jenny who lives in a wee diving island called Roatan,
just off the coast of Honduras, Central America. After just two day's
there and being the happiest I'd been since I could last remember, I
realised something, I was going to make the biggest decision, change my
entire life and move there with my two cat's from London! What had I got
to lose?
After spending the most incredible month of my life with the most inspiring people I've met, I went home to dreary old London! The energy I collected whilst in Roatan stayed with me for a long time; this is what kept me going through depression, cold miserable weather and complete loneliness that I felt...
With all of that now soon to be behind me, my adventure begins.....
March 1st 2010..
This is the biggest day of my life...
Yippeeeeee, with a very sick feeling in my belly! I'm actually on the way to Heathrow airport with my two cat's Max and Troy, I also have three suitcases and a 24" iMac in a flight case, my back pack with all of my camera gear and laptop in and hand luggage containing stuff for my two furry friends and myself !My darling friend Carl has picked me up with all my luggage and I'm actually doing it, leaving the UK for good!
Everything should have been fine, I'd made sure that I have all of the relevant paperwork for the cat's , but the woman at the check in desk took so long with the cat's paperwork that I missed the flight and had to buy another ticket for me and pay for the cat's again! Not only this, but they told me that I could only have one suitcase or I would have to pay £3000 for the rest!!!!, They didn't specify this on the phone when I booked and I did tell them that I would have extra luggage! So, with all three of my suitcases out in the check in area I had to decide what I could and couldn't take with me! The iMac, £300 extra...The cat's things like extra food and treats took preference over my stuff, so I decided that bikini's were definitely in, a couple of small dresses, two pairs of flip flops, a coupe of t-shirts and a couple of pairs of shorts would have to be enough, oh and some toiletries including a years worth of magenta red and black hair colour of course! Six hours later, I finally boarded the plane, stressed out to the max and totally relieved to be on my way...
I arrived In Milan a couple of hours later with the cat's with just two hours to spare until my next flight direct to the island, a short fuel stop in Cuba and then onto the island arriving at seven in the morning. If I'd thought Heathrow was stressful, I had more shit to deal with in Milan! I was told that I couldn't enter Honduras with out a ticket to somewhere else, even though I was going to leave every three months to renew my visa anyway, they still made me buy a ticket to Miami! More money spent that I needed! Late from all the fiasco buying the extra ticket I ran my feet off to the departure gate and it was the farthest one away, it had to be!
I slumped in my seat, took my sleeping pill and dribbled all the way to Cuba where we'd stopped to refuel. I'd made friends with a few of the Italians on the flight and even tough we couldn't really understand each other we all laughed and joked and I'd told them about my cat's in the hold of the plane and that I hadn't seen them since Heathrow and was desperately worried about them as I knew they had no water or food! This was 18 hours later by the way!
Once in the air again and just an hour away from Roatan, I was nearly there and the excitement jumbled up with worry for the cat's I could hardly contain myself. I looked out of the window and saw the Bay Islands and new I was home at last. I left my heart and soul there last time, I felt amazing as the plane touched down and I started feeling alive once again.
Jenny was waiting for me at the airport with a couple of Port Royal beers and much love, it was awesome to see her again. I still had to find the cat's, see if they were still alive, collect my luggage and get through customs with the cat's and paperwork! Funnily enough, this was the simplest thing of the whole journey. $27 for each cat and copies of their paperwork and we were in!!! WOO HOOOO, what a relief...
April 1st 2010..
Me and the boy's have been here a month already and we're settled in. And whilst it hasn't all been pain sailing, I'm having having the time of my life... And so are the cat's! I have internet now and that's taken me three weeks, nothing is a rushed and it feels great to be horizontal..
I'll update about my first month very soon.. Have to go snorkeling! :-)
